ABC-TV’s hit television show Extreme Makeover:
Home Edition has chosen a local Georgetown homebuilder,
Jimmy Jacobs Custom Homes to build one special Austin
family a life-changing gift.
One of the area’s leading custom homebuilders,
Jimmy Jacobs is set to begin construction on a new North
Austin home for Patrick and Jeanette O’Donnell
and their six children. With the help of Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition’s Ty Pennington
and his expert design team, Jimmy Jacobs will help fulfill
the O’Donnell family’s dreams. Work on the
home will begin December 12th, when Jacobs’ crew
and a team of volunteers will start the one-week marathon
construction process in order to finish before the family
returns. On Sunday, December 17th, the O’Donnell
family will return from a trip to the Adaptive Sports
Center at Crested Butte Ski Resort in Colorado for the
grand unveiling of their new dream home, scheduled from
1 to 3 PM. Throughout the construction process and the
unveiling activities, the Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition crew will be filming for an episode of
the show set to air in February/March 2007.
Of Patrick and Jeanette’s six children, five
have been diagnosed with autism. National autism experts
are not aware of a single other family in the United
States with five autistic children. Ranging in age from
15 to 5, the five children have been diagnosed with
varying degrees of autism, from minimal to severe. The
couple’s fourth child, Meaghan, who shows no signs
of autism, helps out as caretaker for her siblings.
The wear and tear from the six children, five of whom
have special needs, has taken its toll on the O’Donnell’s
home. The home’s condition has grown hazardous,
especially as some of the children get older and require
ongoing care.
